the BODY BAR Mission & Values

Kelly created the BODY BAR as a space for individuals of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, genders, and unique attributes to come together in a safe space to talk about their body. “We need to break this stigma around having honest conversations about our bodies. Too often we hide behind our own negative self-image, consistently putting ourselves down, putting down one another - creating a continuous cycle of negativity. That stigma comes from lack of education, lack of awareness, and sometimes it comes down to a lack of compassion and empathy. When we have stigma, we are creating shame and we're creating blame. Everyone has the right to feel comfortable and confident in their own skin and we can all take small actions in our daily lives to help foster a more accepting environment. We must be mindful of the ways in which we speak about our bodies in casual conversations. No one should feel ashamed for wanting to take steps to improve their body image, self-esteem or overall physical & mental well-being.”

At the BODY BAR the focus is on the functionality of our body - physical activity, healthy eating habits and personalized treatments that will help to support and improve a positive body image.

Inclusion

It is our responsibility to be intentional in our behavior, and to oppose racism and discrimination wherever and whenever we encounter it. At the BODY BAR, every individual is treated fairly and equally. Creating a less shaming culture should start at a community level with grassroots action to encourage more inclusive and accepting cultural norms. I encourage you to continue to do your part to use your voice to condemn racism, and I will continue to do mine.
